What's Cookin?

Blythe Cute3 2.jpg

All my dogs are spoiled when it comes to food... how about yours? With all the foods out there why cook for them? Because nutrition is important to man and beast, and because healthy longevity is required for a happy healthy dog. In todays world we cannot be assured about nutrition descriptions on the labels of canine foods. All the GMO's and enhanced growth hormones effect both man and beast.

So besides feeding PEDIGREE dog food I add food that I prepare to the diet.  I start with either game meat or giblets and hearts from chicken and I boil them.  You can also use organ meats of any kind, and remember liver is great for coat and eye health)Then I either put them in the food processor or cut them up into bite size pieces. I reserve the liquid. In that liquid I cook Barley. Barley unlike rice is not cleaned in arsenic. Its also easy to digest and healthy ,even though it is a grain, it is not forced to harvest quickly but applying Monsantos ROUNDUP.

Along with the barley I add a carrot sliced longways and fresh parsley cut up. The carrot is good for eyes and adds great fiber. The Pasely aids in digestion. Both get chopped and put in a large bowl along with a chopped sweet potato and  1 cup of pureed pumpkin( helps the bowels) from my very large organic garden. All ingredients are  mixed up together and put in

a recycled yogurt containers, the big ones, and either frozen or refrigerated for immediate use.

Here below are the ingredients:

  • 1 lb Chicken parts( you can add more but not less, hearts, gizzards etc) you can get these at your grocer

  • 2C Chicken broth (from cooking the chicken-do not strain)

  • 1 large carrot cooked in half then when cooked, diced

  • 2 tablespoons chopped Parsley

  • 1 lagre sweet potato chopped to bite size bits

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree

The dogs love this and it is great for them on many levels, mine watch me chop everything and wait for handouts.  I feed Kibble because dogs need crunchy food for dental health in removing plaque.

When I am raising a pup for myself I switch to Purina FOCUS. I feed Purina Puppy Chow to start off but switching to another brand is way just feed 1/2 and 1/2 for 10 days then switch the brand you choose.

For treats I use Charley Bears from Trader Joes, Tiny Bones, from Milkbones

and Liver Snaps from Alpo.
